Write about the facts: the date of the accident, how did it happen, where, who is responsible, and who is to blame. Was the police present at the place of the accident? If it was, mention that too.

Question by emmaolivia: what would happen if i leave my car insurance details in my car and it gets stolen?
just wondering what would happen if i leave my car insurance documents in the car and it gets stolen? would they be able to do anything with my insurance details?

You insurance card is supposed to be left in the car. It doesn’t have any of your personal information so it’s of no use to a thief. All it has is the insurance company name, your policy number, and a description of the car. If you have anything more than the insurance card in the car, like your policy, remove it. It doesn’t need to be there.

would i be covered on my friends car insurance if i am driving?

Question by thatoneguy1: would i be covered on my friends car insurance if i am driving?
I was driving his car the other day, with his permission, and nothing happened. The thing is that his father found out and is asking if my insurance will cover driving my friends car. So how does this work? Am I covered on my friends car insurance or can I somehow be in trouble for driving without insurance? I do have my own car insurance, but its only liability. I don’t know if this helps in the search for my answer.

Typically, auto insurance will cover the driver, not the car. So, if you have your own insurance policy, then the coverage you’re paying for would apply to any car your drive. If you crash your friends car and only have liability, you’re responsible and the insurance company won’t pay a dime. Be careful out there. Either get yourself some decent insurance, or don’t drive anyone’s car but your own.

Question by youcanttrustviolence: What’s the best way to handle car insurance, for an American on temporary assignment in Canada?
I am an American citizen and will be working in Canada for 1-2 years. My car is registered and (currently) insured in Florida. I’m not sure if there’s anything special I should do, and whether my car insurance company will take care of me, should I have an accident in Canada.

provincial jurisdiction. check with the provincial authority. but if you are staying longer than 6 months, you are considered a resident, and required to register and insure your car in the province you are residing. you can keep your regular insurance for a few months though until you get settled in and find a local insurance company.
