Luke’s real life auto insurance quote came back at 303 dollars a month. Luke got pissed… and put his new webcam to use. (Like all of our stuff, it’s scripted.)

@nikojpapa – as much as i hate car insurance rates, there is no way for insurance companies to tell how ‘risky’ someone is. there are chances of moral hazards (those who take risks once they get insurance because they are now insured) and adverse selection (those who only get insurance because they know they need it), both driving up insurance rates… so the only way for insurance companies to kind of ‘compensate’ for that is to charge higher premiums based on statistics.

@nikojpapa The point is, that making INDIVIDUALS pay less is so expensive, that there is no point. If you would pay 300 dollars or more extra to have your background checked and your neighbours interterviewed just so you could save 30 dollars, or actually pay more, Im sure many insurance companies would welcome the money.

  19. nikojpapa

@Yodainacan The point is they should make the INDIVIDUALS pay less for taking little risks, not a statistical group that doesn’t show anything about the person in it.

    Nice try though, pervert.

you make an ass out of me and you make more money.

  23. Yodainacan

@TheSpazzofMuffins Because you cant get away with making a Racist Tax. You can get away making an Age Tax, but when it comes to the colour of the skin, people will come to you with torches and pitchforks.

So its the same reason. A company has to make profit, and if you get burned on a stake, you wont enjoy your money very much.

  24. TheSpazzofMuffins

@Yodainacan black people are a risk group, especially in low income areas. Why isn’t there a Black Tax?

  25. Yodainacan

Its not actually making risk groups to pay more, its about allowing safer groups to pay less, to stay competitive. Insurance companies need to make a profit, and either its this way, or everybody pays the same, which would mean everybody else pays more, meaning safer groups would pay for the risks other people take.
Or it could be fully personalized “risk” which could cost hundreds for a background check interview and risk evaluation. Which might also -increase- the monthly bill…
